The MAN who gave BIRTH to a NATION...

He was a man of noble ideas. He was born on this very day in the year 1869. He was a man who steered one of the world's largest nations during its Struggle for Independence. He not only stood as a role model for an entire nation but also tried his best to get everyone to follow in his path of non-violence. His name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

He was quoted as saying, "I do not want to be part of a nation that is born of violence." His ideologies, his teachings are still widely followed by the people of this nation and many more all over the world. He is called the Father of the Nation. And I feel, that he's the one who can be closest to being called so during the entire Independence movement. All what he has done to achieve independence for India are well within the meaning of the word 'ahimsa'. He in fact replied to the other leaders of the Independence movement, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." when advised to take up violent ways of tackling the enemy.

No doubt, he was and is a very fatherly figure to the millions who are part of this nation. If only the citizens of this nation truly followed all his teachings, this nation certainly would be the paradise on earth. But that is clearly not the case. He is only part of the books we read, the speeches we make and political parties logos that are created to lure millions towards them. We have a nation that talks of Gandhiji and his ideas and a nation that is nowhere close to DOING what it takes to achieve what he preached.

On this day, all we can hope to achieve, is true independence!!

My tribute to the Man who gave BIRTH to a NATION :

gandhian ideals have delayed independence and it is because of him our nation is billed a hindu nation! thanks to partitioning of our motherland, the most saddest incident in indian history.

@dolphin : now, assuming you read the previous comment (on the prev. post), this is just the more popular side of his coin. I certainly am more interested in the other side too!! That's what is making the WHOLE difference to WHAT we are today!! Technically, you and I are both making the same point!!!
